Bedtime Prayer
Now I lay her down to sleep,
I pray she will not make a peep,
But close her eyes and rest her head,
And, just this once, remain in bed.
But if, instead, she stays awake,
I pray thee, Lord, my head not ache;
And when I hear a pitter-patter,
Lord, help me not to be mad at her.
Amen

That was the most brilliant thing I’ve read all week long.

I might incorporate this prayer into our nightly routine.
It is maddening when kids get up after they are tucked in for the night. Drives me bonkers, it does….
gretchen from lifenut´s last blog ..I’ve always hated the word “wean”
You crack me up!
This would be so adorable written in beautiful calligraphy and framed. Or on a scrapbook page. I suggest (seriously) that you copywrite it.

In case you forgot your OTHER favorite poem:
TICK TICK TICK TICK TICK TICK TICK
Toast up a sandwich quick quick quick
Hamwich or jamwich
lick lick lick
TICK TICK TICK TICK TICK TICK TICK — Stop!
Pop!
It’s ok; I’m happy to remind you of it…
Hibby — thanks for the reminder, very generous of you.
Although I should point out that the toast poem is hardly relevant: the toast poem is one of my daughter’s favorites, while the poem above is simply inspired by my daughter; the toast poem is about toast popping out of the toaster, while the above poem is about a little girl popping out of bed; the toast poem, recited over and over again, might cause one to grit one’s teeth in frustration, while the inspiration behind the above poem definitely causes one to grit one’s teeth in frustration. See what I mean? They’re worlds apart.
Have you been spying on our house for the last several weeks?
Or make that the last year. Great poem. Been my prayer as well!
Excellent. Thanks for sharing!
Love it!
